Aberdovey GC
For links golf lovers, Aberdovey lying at the mouth of the River Dovey on the west coast of Wales is a must play course. Golf was first played here in 1886, when holidaying members of Formby Golf Club could do withou their beloved game laid out a course using flowerpots for holes.
With elevated tees perched in the dunes, the shorter front nine measures less than 3,000 yards - short, especially by modern day standards. But it's the homeward stretch that's outstanding and will linger long in the memory. The par five 13th, playing directly along the coast at 530 yards, is the most difficult on the course. If the wind is in the wrong direction it'll take numerous blows to get to the green.
There are many theories on how best to play the 16th. With the railway to the left, this typical links hole is a brilliant short par four. Birdies are there to be had but don't get too greedy.
The clubhouse which was rebuilt in 1997 after a fire, boasts some of the best facilities to be found in Wales.
Best Hole: The short par 4 16th requires careful thinking and pinpoint accuracy. Get it wrong and you can easily accumulate a high number.
