Dartmouth GC
Beautiful part of the world with a golf course to match
Situated just four miles from the ever popular coastal town of Dartmouth, the golf and country club is set in 225 acres of wonderful rolling South Devon countryside.
The club has two layouts , the Championship Course which is a 7200-yard par 72 monster that has hosted the West Region PGA Championships on no less than six occasions and the 5200 yard par 66 Dartmouth Course which provides a more gentle test. But more than enough for the average golfer.
Both courses were designed by Jeremy Pern and feature sweeping fairways, ample year round teeing areas and superb greens which have all been built to USGA Championship specification making them free-draining, consistent putting surfaces.
No fewer than 12 water features add an extra dimension to the challenge. To score well here you will need to be accurate from the tee and have an imaginative short game to combat the fact that many of the greens have been skillfully set into the surrounding landscape and are surrounded by clever bunkering.
The greens feature plenty of humps and hollows and putting is tricky when they speed up in summer.
When you're down with the golf the country club offers an excellent range of facilities including a driving range, health and leisure club with swimming pool, sauna and spa and a good range of accommodation. Surely one to jot down.
Best Hole: 18th 244 yards par 3. Invariably played into the wind with a carry over water approaching 200 yards. Undulating putting surface. Not for the faint hearted.
