Carnoustie pictures
Number seven in Golf Monthly’s Top100 courses and host to 7 Open Championships, the last being in 2007, the scene of Padraig Harrington’s first of two Open Championship wins. Who could forget Jean van de Velde’s collapse at the 18th in 1999.

Royal St George's pictures
Number six in Golf Monthly's Top 100 courses and host to 13 Open Championships and will again host the Championship in 2011. Formed in 1887, it was only 7 years later that St George's hosted its first Open Championship. The club has also hosted both Walker and Curtis cups and the Amateur Championship.

Royal Birkdale pictures
Number five in Golf Monthly's Top 100 courses and host to 9 Open Championships, Royal Birkdale is part of the golf coast, a run of top quality links courses that run along the north west coast of England. Royal Birkdale has also hosted Walker, Ryder and Curtis Cup matches.

Old Course St Andrews pictures
Number four in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 courses, the Home of Golf and this year's Open Championship course, host of The Open Championship no fewer than 28 times. The Old Course hosted its first Open Championship back in 1873.

Royal County Down pictures
Number two in Golf Monthly's Top 100 golf courses. The only major event not to have been played at Royal County Down is the Open Championship, having hosted The Amateur Championship, The Seniors Open Championship and Walker Cup matches.

Muirfield pictures
Number one in Golf Monthly's Top 100 courses. Muirfield has held 15 Open Championships, the last seeing Ernie Els lift the Claret Jug with a winning total of 278. The Open will again grace the links at Muirfield in 2013

Turnberry pictures
Number three in Golf Monthly's Top 100 golf courses, Turnberry has hosted four Open Championships. Two of them will go down as the most compelling championships ever, 1977 will always be remembered for Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus going head to head, while in 2009 a 59-year-old Tom Watson came so close to winning his sixth Open Championship
