Golf at Lahinch began in 1894. Old Tom Morris made improvements in 1897 but it was Alister MacKenzie who created the course largely still in play today. Between 1999 and 2003 Martin Hawtree completed a renovation project to bring the rugged and imposing links into line with the modern game. There are still plenty of idiosyncrasies, but that's half its appeal.
Panellists' comments: "A special links experience, set in a beautifully remote part of Ireland"; "Unconventional to say the least"
