Designed by Charles Lawrie, the Duchess is the shortest of Woburn's three fabulous courses. That is by no means to say it is the easiest. The trees encroach ominously from the 1st tee onwards and there are few courses in the country that place such a premium on straight hitting. The holes carve through towering mature trees over undulating terrain to small, tricky and quick greens. Placement rather than power is the order of the day around the Duchess. Wayward higher handicappers may struggle, but better players will relish the test of control.

Panellists' comments: "A demanding course that doesn't let up from start to finish"; "A very vistor- and society-friendly operation"
