No 28 - Walton Heath - Old
The immaculately conditioned Walton Heath Old course, with its profuse heather and masterful bunkering, combine to make a truly excellent test
28 WALTON HEATH – Old
Architect: Fowler 2006 position: 38 Stats: 6,836 yds; par 72; SSS 73 GF: £105-£130 T: 01737 812060 W: whgc.co.uk
The Old course can stretch to more than 7,400 yards off the purple tees, but from wherever you tee it up, it presents a very tough test.
There is perhaps a slight imbalance in the flow of the Old, starting as it does with a long par 3, the crossing of a busy road to the 2nd tee, and then with three par 5s in four holes over the closing stretch.
However, the immaculate conditioning, profuse heather and masterful bunkering combine to make this one of the finest inland courses in England.
When compared to prices at other famous courses in the South East, Walton Heath offers genuine value for money. RS
+ Consistently superb condition; charming clubhouse; great visitor welcome - Par 5s very close to one another; road noise from the M25
