No 42 - Walton Heath - New
Walton Heath New course is in exemplary condition and is set in truly natural surroundings. Combined with the warm welcome, this is yet another one to add to your list of must-plays
42 WALTON HEATH – New
Architect: Fowler 2006 position: 84 Stats: 6,613 yds; par 72; SSS 72 GF: £105-£130 T: 01737 812060 W: whgc.co.uk
After years in the shadow of the Old, the New is now finally receiving the recognition it deserves. It may not have the charm and variety of the Old, but it’s arguably a better-balanced layout.
With the exception of the 1st and 4th, the par 4s are long and uncompromising, especially from the white or purple tees – which, refreshingly, visitors are welcome to play from.
So, while better players will relish the battle, higher handicappers might experience a slight feeling of relentlessness.
Off course, the welcome is warm and visitors are genuinely made to feel like club members for the day. MH
+ Exemplary condition; in harmony with the environment; serious test - Lacks a real wow factor; locker rooms do need an imminent upgrade
