The Queen’s course is occasionally described in slightly disparaging, patronising terms in relation to the King’s and PGA Centenary course, but this is unfair.

Comparatively short it may be with a par of 68, but it is extremely attractive and kept in as good a condition as its stablemates.

Arguably, for the average player it provides a more enjoyable day’s golf and is probably the prettiest of the three.

The design makes full use of the natural slopes, lochs and woodlands with majestic trees, vast expanses of gorse, and plenty of opportunity to spot both pheasant and deer. SP

+ Great fun; magnificent views
– Pricey; perhaps too short for modern golf; slightly quirky layout
