Sunningdale typifies all that is great about old-fashioned, traditional inland golf; natural, beautiful, peaceful, interesting and, above all, fun.

There is an impressive balance of long and short par 4s, three of them being under 325 yards, but the unwary or overconfident golfer can easily drop shots.

There is also a superb mix of par 3s, all of which play quite differently.

Most holes are tree-lined even though it was originally a heathland course.

The halfway hut has a worldwide reputation and there is a tremendous sense of occasion whenever playing here. RS

+ Great variety of holes; playable and enjoyable for all abilities
- Expensive; possibly a little quirky in places for some; weak 9th hole
