Harry Colt is one of the godfathers of golf-course architecture, and this stock-broker belt design is a classic heathery, piney layout with a beautifully balanced feel.
Standing at the front of the striking and unusual clubhouse, looking out over the course, you realise how lucky you are to be playing here.
There is wonderful heather and gorse with plenty of majestic Scots Pine and birch, and the undulations provide interest without being too tiring.
With a terrific variety of holes, the challenge is to keep the ball straight and to avoid the punishing, but beautifully presented bunkers. RS
+ Fabulous and old-fashioned; classic Colt design; great carvery lunch
- Ongoing drainage work has been causing some disruption

The 'ongoing drainage work' has long since finished and there are no scars.

I learnt my golf here as a young lad. I dont recognise it now. I remember a 9 hole course that used to weave its way through the 18 hole course and was a pleasure to play. I cant make it out now on maps, suppose it was sold off for development ? I remember a tiger line on the first dog leg would get you on the green for 1 and the second hole was an elevated green horseshoed in the pines. very difficult for a novice but got me playing.Am I right or just wish i was !!
