Frequent host of Final Qualifying for the Open, the course occupies a narrow strip of land between railway and beach on an excellent stretch of golfing coast.
The par-5 6th winds along over a saddleback entrance to a green tucked away wonderfully in the low dunes by the shore. The 7th and the 17th are also particularly strong.
Depending on the wind direction, the stretch of holes along the water from 5 to 12 will be either serene or dramatic, but always inspirational.
The clubhouse offers a beautiful outlook over the 18th and the rest of the course. SP
+ Good test of shot-making; very pleasant clubhouse
- Quite expensive for a non-Open rota course

As one of the few austrian links golf enthusiasts my wife and me went to Western Gailes to visit one of the shrines of the Ayrshire links courses. We were lucky to get there on a sunny and quiet but very windy day. The welcome was personal and very warm but the locker rooms for women are far away from world class (said my wife). Men can not complain! But what is more important than this is the condition and the layout of the course itself, and this is world class! A small strip between the sea and the railway offers all you want to have if you love to play links golf at its best. Bumpy fairways, undulating and fast greens tucked between beautiful dunes (to highlight the par 5 sixth, the par 3 seventh), some blind and semiblind shots, deep pot bunkers and rough as rough should be (really rough to get out). My personal best hole is the par 4 seventeenth. After a decent drive you need an blind approach over a dune against the wind. This is really heaven for an austrian golfer!
Very friendly people in the clubhouse but no pro shop (at least not open in March). We bought our memorabilia at the bar. But food was delicious - we enjoyed steak pie and chicken curry overnlooking the eighteenth green. All in all a beatiful day and worth the relatively high green fee.

I? have the same problem with the dianrwg tool. We can draw all sorts of lines and angles, and then what do we do with them ? how do we know whether its good, its a nice angle, etc .it doesn't tell either how we should film, from the back ? aiming the hand ?, the ball ?, the head?, or a lateral view?I'm not saying i dont like the software i love it, i use it in my home and it works. it's great.i'm just a bit disapointed by the lack of informations.again thank you.Richard
