The Carrick factfile

The Carrick's reputation as one of the best new courses in Scotland will be given another boost with the news that the 2010 International Pairs World Final will be held there

The Carrick

If confirmation was needed The Carrick is one of Scotland's outstanding new golf courses, it was the staging of the PGA Cup match between Great Britain and Ireland and the USA which proved the point with the course part of the five-star Cameron House hotel resort.

The course is a multi-million pound investment by De Vere and, plays from 5,200 yards, from the front tees, to 7,000 plus from the championship tees. The front nine holes span open rolling countryside and lakes while the cack nine are bordered by mature woodland with spectacular views across Loch Lomond with a stretch of dramatic closing holes alongside the shore.

The pick of the early holes is the 431-yard 3rd with water flanking the entire right side of the hole from tee to green and five bunkers protecting the left side of the fairway and green.

The 404-yards 4th is perhaps one of the most beautiful holes on the course - although 14 is a real rival - sweeping from right to left alongside a lagoon while the 612-yard 8th is the longest hole on the course while the 12th is the longest and most demanding par-3 on the course with an uphill tee shot of 233 yards to a plateau green.

The 14th hole drops almost 60 feet from tee to green with the backdrop of Ben Lomond and the Loch and 16 is another devilish par-3 and there's a strong finish with the 444-yard 17th following the shoreline of the Loch and the finishing hole a demanding par-4 of 431 yards with the green protected by water on the left.

Despite the weather at the PGA Cup match, there was little chance of the course being closed as the greens are to USGA specification.

There's also a unique practice facility with an island green situated in the middle of a lagoon and the rest of the practice facilities are second to none with two putting greens, a designated short game area and driving range.

There are also specific tailored academy sessions available with ladies mornings, senior golf and junior golf coaching, all under the watchful eye of a PGA qualified coaches.
