Snooper S280 Shotsaver GPS review

The Snooper S280 Shotsaver GPS is a multipurpose touch-screen device that can be used on the golf course as a sat nav (including speed camera detection) and as an MP3 player. The device comes with a free subscription to Snooper’s course database, which includes over 2,000 courses in Western Europe that have been plotted on foot. The S280 can hold up to 100 courses at a time. Green and hazard yardages are all accurate to within two yards.
This device is superb value for money for a product that not only gives you free access to course downloads, but also works as a sat nav. It identifies all hazards with easy-to-follow icons. The battery life is disappointingly only five hours long.

I Bought a SNOOPER S320 golf GPS with a touch screen in October 2010 only used 10 times when the screen cracked, I sent back to supplier but was told to send it back to head office (Performance Products, Runcorn, Cheshire)
Got reply: (it appears that the LCD Screen has cracked beneath the touch screen membrane and not covered by warranty,) they have refused to repair the item, all they offered was a replacement for £129.99. As the touch screen this is the only way to operate this device it is now useless and I have lost the £180 which I paid for it.
So buyers beware if you buy any SNOOPER GPS with a touch screen and the screen cracks the item is useless and not covered by warranty

Likewise I purchased a Snooper S320 and having carried the device in my pocket I returned home and the screen had cracked.
Likewise the supplier - Hotgolf UK - were unable to help and the unit was returned to Performance Products and I received an identical letter.
A replacement unit was offered at £129.99 but no further help!

My experience is the same. The cracked screen appeared spontaneously, was not a result of misuse, damage through accident or dropping. The device was actually on my trolley when I first noticed it was broken. Snooper have sent what is obviously a standard reply offering a replacement at £129.99, which I am refusing to accept. This seems to be a not uncommon problem. I am maintaining the device is 'not fit for purpose' and will keep you posted as to how I get on.

We have been advised that Performace Products have replaced the above. It was a small issue that has now been resolved with replacement units.

I have a s320 with a cracked screen, today i tried to get through to performance products 6 times to technical and was put on hold for 5 minutes each time, eventualy spoke to someone,at 4.55 who abrubtly told me i had to purchase another one for129.99 plus postage. This device is only 10 months old what a waste of money, good device, after sales terrible. The screen is very fragile it was in my pocket when it cracked, also in the protective case. When purchased they give you afree golf bracket,i have a power caddy and non of the brackets fitted my power caddy,if i needed a bracket i had to purchase one for another 33.00 which at that time were out of stock anyway.Because of the fragility of the screen i would say at this stage to keep well away from the snooper.

My experience is terrible, had a broken screen, and had to pay the £129.99 for the updated version of shotsaver, which immediatly froze and could not do anything with it,i had to disconnect battery, then when i spoke to tech department they informed me to stick a pin in a hole to reset(after one day)did not work, they have now informed me that the software needs updating after just over a week.
Unfortunately there seems to be to many issues with these units,i would advise to keep away from them.

I am in the same boat. Cracked screen on the S280 after minimal and careful use. They will ship me a replacement product now at £99. I am however fully covered by my Golf Insurance so not a direct loss to me, but the question is, are these devices too fragile?
The other issue is why such a high replacement cost?
You can normally replace a mobile phone screen for £50 or less, and I have reasons to believe that the screen on the S280/320 is not any different than the average mobile phone.
