Callaway Tour i and Tour iX
Review Date: 21st July 2008
Design and Tech Benefits
The outer core on both the Tour i and Tour iX redistributes weight away from the inner core to increase the ball’s moment of inertia for added length off the tee. The inner core is softer, to produce a better feel without sacrificing any distance. The new Thermoset Urethane cover is softer on the Tour i ball than the Tour iX. The cover’s refined HEX Aerodynamics are designed without a seam to give extra length and an extremely stable ball flight.

Golf Monthly Verdict
The Tour i is probably the softest ball I have used since the days of the balata and I will definitely be testing further. My only concern would be how long each ball lasts. The Tour iX has a slightly firmer feel but still proved great around the greens. It seems Callaway has designed two excellent Tour balls that perform extremely well in different conditions.

TaylorMade TP Black Golf Ball
The premium end of the golf ball market has seen a lot of competition in recent years and there are a number of new kids on the block. One of those is Taylormade who have been enjoying success in the professional game with their TP black and red balls. The cynics will argue that it is all well and good for these golfing gods to play with a certain ball but what do us mere mortals have to gain. Surely a ball is a ball and all have the inbuilt tendency to find trouble at the most inappropriate moments?
The thing that the TP Black gives is a high performance ball that will suit a diverse range of abilities. It has a nice firm feel off a putter face, giving a nice receptive sound as it heads towards the bottom of the cup. It has excellent spin action without being over exuberant for those that like to fire wedges towards the pin. Perhaps where this ball scores highest though is with the big dog off the tee. Designed to give a mid-to-high launch it zips off the club and even with my ropey swing I noticed a welcome few yards even in the recent wet conditions. It has a great flight and penertrates through the wind especially those annoying crosswinds and headwinds where distance is always a struggle.
Although not a cheap option, the TP Black is a versatile ball and well worth giving a go in your next monthly medal. It's still not too late to add it to your list for the big fella in a red suit so give them a try. I'm sure you will enjoy playing with it
