Callaway FT-9 driver review
Review Date: 6th March 2009
Design and Tech Benefits
The Callaway FT-9 driver is created with workability in mind with the combination of a titanium cup face and a carbon-composite body. External web weighting helps to accurately position the centre of gravity, this means that neutral and draw versions are available. This new offering maintains the traditional Callaway head shape.

Golf Monthly Verdict
Composite heads often provide a mixed reaction, but the performance and looks of the FT-9 should make it an all-round winner. It seemed to offer more forgiveness than its predecessor, the FT-5, and at impact it sounded great. The variety of neutral, draw and tour (£379) heads mean there are plenty of options available.

I asked for the Cobra S2, the Super Burner and the FT9 (I wanted to get the feel for each and was replacing an LD Speed). I hit the S2 and got nothing from it, the set up was all wrong and that was before I even thought about the weight. I tried the Super Burner and got some mixed results but nothing impressive. I then picked up the FT-9 and immediately noticed that, at address, it felt right. I knew I was going to hit this well. I hit the first shot with a slight fade but noticed the noise, feel and distance, all of which were an improvement on all the rest. The second shot I tatooed and got an extra 30 yrds. I was hooked; shot after shot went straight and very long. it sounds great and the ball feels like it's on its way even before contact. This is a real winner and I would suggest at least trying it when you are in the market. Also, ask for a discount, if you pay RRP you will always regret it. A cracking all round shot shaper with looks that can go the distance.
