The Ping G20 fairway wood is the most improved club in the Ping G20 range compared to the G15. The look at address and the impact sound are both excellent. The introduction of a Tour shaft will suit those with faster swing speeds who want to keep spin down. The new weight port in the back of the head produces a slightly higher launch compared to previous models without adding too much spin.

Noticeable improvements from the G15 help to make this an excellent fairway wood. The launch was high without spinning too much, which is ideal for long shots into greens.

The shallow face works well, but those who use a fairway from the tee might like something slightly deeper.

PGA Pro verdict

If the driver was anything to go by, this had to be a winner. It didn’t disappoint! I really like its feel and flight. The shallow face made launching the ball easy, regardless of the lie, and it gave a really nice long high trajectory. Off the tee, it was even easier, and sometimes was up with my driver in distance. The club sat very square at address, which is an important factor for me.
