Wilson Staff Di11 irons
Wilson Staff Di11 irons review
For a forgiving deep cavity, we were surprised at how responsive the feel was. From the middle, these are incredibly smooth and solid, which broadens the overall appeal of the Di11s. The lofts have been strengthened to help offer more yards, but the level of forgiveness makes them easy to hit throughout the set. The large face area offers a solid strike all over. Designed with distance in mind, better players will need to make adjustments for the extra yards, but many mid to high handicappers will enjoy this benefit. The flight was strong and the long irons are very powerful without ballooning too much. Those who struggle for flight in their long irons should opt for hybrids over the 3 and 4-irons. PGA pro verdict I loved the look of the Di11s but, as a softer swinger, I felt the wide tip shaft meant a slight lack of feel. As the lofts have been strengthened I struggled with the flight. But this is a good product nonetheless and the heads are well designed. The steel shafts will help fast swingers whilst graphite would have given better results for me. If you plan to test these, it’s crucial to get the correct shafts for your swing. (John Jacobs)
Why you can trust Golf Monthly
The Wilson Staff Di11 irons' topline is big enough to instil confidence in a good strike, while not seeming too bulky to use from a range of lies. The face area is also large, which offered a real confidence boost.
The design offers modern, eye-catching styling on the shelf and a classic view at address. It is a concept that works well and looks more expensive than its affordable price tag.
There are three lightweight stock options: steel True Temper SL95 wide tip, graphite UST AXIVCORE or a ‘half-and-half' shaft that fuses the feel of steel with the playability of graphite.
We suspect the softness of the grip aids the overall feel of the club. The grips also seemed relatively thin so those with larger hands may require rolls of tape beneath to make them wider.
Weight has been removed from the edge of the face and inside of the cavity. This promotes a higher flight and greater stability. The face has the largest sweet spot of any Wilson iron.
A lightweight elastomer coating helps reduce vibrations for a better feel. The shaft options are all lightweight to help deliver the speed required for longer iron shots.
RRP: £349 (S), £449 (G)
