Ping S57 Irons review
Review Date: 12th September 2008
Design and Tech Benefits
Cast from 17-4 stainless steel, these irons feature a tungsten weight in the toe to help create a higher moment of inertia (MOI) through impact and reduce the amount of clubhead twist on any mis-hits. The centre of gravity in these small, compact heads is closer to the face creating a slightly lower launch angle and more penetrating flight. The brushed silver chrome finish should further attract the eye of the better player just as it has with many of Ping’s players on tour.
Golf Monthly Verdict
That these were designed with better ball strikers in mind is apparent as soon you look down at address. The thin topline and classic shape will intimidate less confident golfers but the S57s are actually more forgiving than you might think. The lower natural launch angle makes these extremely versatile and while the heads are cast and not forged, they still offer a decent level of feel.

I just bought a set of S-57s. After getting the loft and lie corrected they are great clubs and forgiving. I play to a 3 handicap and have allways played mizuno. I wanted a change and am glad i did.

Took delivery of my fitted S-57s (4-9, with matching Tour-W wedges) in August 08. In September I won my first club competition. My handicap is down from 15.3 to 13.2 and I'm looking forward to being in contention in this season's competitions. I also believe that my h/c is destined to drop by another two to four shots purely because of the clubs, and the confidence they inspire.
If you're confident that you'll strike the ball well, even if you don't always, don't let the 'players club' label put you off. These are great clubs (when fitted) even for mid handicappers.

Played Mizuno for years.........needed a change so I got fitted to a set of Ping S57s. They have been everything that i wanted. They are not as soft feeling as the Mizunos but are more forgiving, so I guess that is the trade off. Absolutely love the wedges. Have have the Mizuno's out since owning the Pings and can't go back to them. Bending is a problem with stainless and coating these clubs can only be bend once.
