DFX 2 Ball Blade

Price: £139.00

A classic 2-ball design with a black head that makes the alignment aid stand out

Design and Tech Benefits

The new black head makes the white 2-ball alignment aid stand out even more to help with alignment. They've done a good job moving on from the classic 2-ball design. New Stronomic technology offers a firmer feel and larger hitting area than the previous White Hot putter and the new black design reduces glare from the club head.

Golf Monthly Verdict

The face is slightly firmer than the original 2-ball model making this an ideal choice for all year round golf. The head is heavy and easy to control and could be a good weapon in the fight against a shaky stroke. This Odyssey putter was a real hit with the testers. The simple yet effective alignment aid helped to promote a confident stroke.

Originally I bought this club to help me ram home those nervy short putts. I figured if I was sure I was lined up correctly I would have the confidence to stroke the putt at pace. And for me this still remains the best club for this purpose because the T shape head adds to the already strong visual alignment of the two white spheres atop the club that really do stand out superbly from the dark metal. I merely stand up to the ball and alignment seems to happen subconsciously.
And yes it has certainly helped with holing out. But the biggest surprise was how good my long range putting has become. It is nicely balanced, has good feel and speed off the face, and as per the above lines itself up.
Putting and therefore putters are very personal and there are a myriad of flatstick choices out there. From the drop dead gorgeous to ones so weird they make the 2-Balls looks seem dated. But whatever you do you must make sure that a 2-Ball is included in any sampling you do. You just might be surprised.
I've had the DFX 2 Ball Blade for 5 years now and whilst every other club in my bag has been changed at least once this one remains constant.

I must admit that I am not sure whether Odyssey still sell the DFX 2-Ball Blade, but nonetheless they are available second hand in pro shops and also on auction websites and they are well worth hunting out.
Being an Odyssey you can take for granted the qualities such as balance and feel, and the effectiveness of the 2-Ball alignment is of course legendary. But like me you might also want to tinker a bit to get the most out of the club.
I have had mine cut down to 32 inches so I can widen my stance and get down low to the ball. Then I had an enlarged grip put on to help remove any wrist action from my stroke. This extra weight at the top of the club allowed me to add weight to the head to counterbalance it and also help me push right through the ball. And the ideal way to find out what weight to use was to add different magnets to the head and test them out on the practice putting green. Once satisfied out came the superglue just to hold them nice and solid.
I would certainly recommend a 2-Ball. If its good enough for Padraig!
