Key technology

The TaylorMade Rossa Spider Vicino putter is designed to offer the stability of the original Spider design, but in a more streamlined, attractive shape. The weight of the main body has been reduced, while the weight of the frame has been increased. This improves forgiveness levels. A new face insert gives a better roll.

Will suit

Those who struggle to hole their fair share of short putts and the fans of the original spider for its forgiveness, but not its chunky, unusual shape

Golf Monthly Verdict

Anyone who tried the original Spider could not deny the stability it provided on short putts. It did, however, take some getting used to at address and was not as easy to use from long range. This has been addressed here thanks to a more streamlined design. It is by no means a classic head shape, but the design has less going on and is an impressive performer.

The look at address is far more streamlined and pleasing to the eye, while none of the forgiveness levels on offer have been lost. It will still be tough for traditionalists to be converted to such a modern design. (Tested by GM's Paul O' Hagan)

PGA Pro verdict
Like so many of the larger head designs, this sat closed and persisted in doing so, regardless of how high or low my hands were set at address. The feel and balance was the usual high quality from TaylorMade and the strike was great. The alignment was easy to use due to its design, although this had to be held in position due to its ‘closed’ bias. The feel was also great on long putts and helped me to identify the correct arc of the club while putting. (Tested by John Jacobs)
