Tested: FootJoy Sport Spikeless
Review Date: 10th December 2012
Design and Tech Benefits
Key technology:
The FJ Sport Spikeless combines the support and look of the original Sport design, but is lighter and more flexible. Normal spikes are replaced by a durable and spikeless outsole, designed to be worn on and off the course. A new Forefoot Flex Zone improves flexibility without sacrificing support.
Will suit:
Anyone who wants a lightweight spikeless design but is concerned about a lack of support and grip.
Golf Monthly Verdict
GM verdict:
This FootJoy model makes complete sense. Spikeless designs tend to be extremely lightweight and comfortable,
as well as offering surprising levels of strong grip. However, the only major issue on many spikeless offerings is the lack of support around the foot, particularly when swinging. The Sport Spikeless utilises the excellent stability of the original spiked design, but with the benefits of a lightweight spikeless sole unit. The grip
on offer is extremely impressive, and the look will appeal to a wide range of golfers. This is a
shoe that ticks many boxes.
But... those looking for a spikeless option to wear off the course may choose to look elsewhere. This FootJoy offering is most definitely a dedicated golf shoe.
PGA pro verdict:
FootJoy has come up with another great performance shoe. Comfortable, stable, waterproof, and with striking looks. The new sole unit gives superb grip and yet is cleat free, so no replacement spikes are needed. These shoes are lightweight, flexible and the insole gives great comfort. A mesh liner provides extra breathability, meaning my feet felt fresh after 18 holes. This is a real sport shoe, delivering unrivalled comfort and quality.
