Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi hybrid
Review Date: 29th April 2009
Design and Tech Benefits
A titanium crown accounts for just 2.6% of the overall head weight, so more weight can be focused low and deep in the head, to generate a higher launch and extra forgiveness. Moderate offset and heel-biased weighting should make it easier to square or close the face at impact, while the leading edge is suitably softened to make it more forgiving in the strike.
Golf Monthly Verdict
The way this club sat at address gave added confidence from all kind of lies. A very different feel off the face to many other utilities, but you'll soon get used to it when you realise the levels of forgiveness on offer.

Firstly I must admit, the reason I was initially drawn to this club was the fact that it would fit in with my Mizuno irons, driver and 4 wood. Not to be frivilous with money however, I knew I had to try it out first. So I went to American Golf and grabbed the 19 degree and 23 degree version. To really put the club to the test though, I also grabbed the equivalent lofts in the Cobra DWS. After reading loads of hybrid reviews, I was very impressed with the feedback on the Cobra so I was going to get one or the other.
On appearance the Mizuno is the winner hands down. Compact, nicely balanced with a good stock shaft. After hitting a few balls on the launch monitor they both seemed pretty similar which pleased me as this was good enough to convince me that I was making the right choice with the Mizuno. However, I decided to hit them off the deck to further convince myself that this club was good enough to be chosen instead of the Cobra. I don't know whether it was the fact that I was used to using the Exsar shaft (which is also fitted on my driver and 4 wood), but the Mizuno seemed to be a much cleaner strike from the mat. Particularly the 19 degree loft. Every strike seemed perfect and I even had the confidence to give a full strong backswing which is something I will rarely commit to out on the course. I was convinced and opted for the 19 degree simply because of the consistency of the striking.
Having used it for 4 months or so I am becoming more reliant on it's distance, accuracy and versatility and can't imagine how I ever played without it. Only problem now is that my 16.5 degree F50 4 wood and the 3 Iron from my MX-900's are virtually obselete as any shot over 180 yards brings the CLK out of the bag.
I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a top performing hybrid and who is daring to look further than the usual Callaway, Taylormade and Ping monopoly.
