Mizuno MX-700 utility review
Review Date: 4th March 2009
Design and Tech Benefits
The Mizuno MX-700 utility is designed so the crown of the club drops down from the face, which moves weight lower in the head and makes it easier to produce high-launching shots. Like the rest of the MX-700 series the lightweight face expands the sweetspot. With its penetrating flight this is an excellent substitute for a fairway wood.

Golf Monthly Verdict
While the graphics on the crown look slightly too busy on the Mizuno MX-700 utility compared to the great-looking driver and fairway wood, the penetrating flight did impress. It flew considerably longer than comparative lofts in other utility clubs and rolled out a lot more than most.

Mizuno have successfully hit the mark with the whole of the MX 700 range and this hybrid is a worthy part of it.
Ugliness, like beauty, is of course in the eye of the beholder and it seems to me that the colour styling has divided opinion. But in the end a club is all about how it performs and that is where these utilities excel. So easy to swing, no matter which loft you use they hit the ball high and long and so are ideal for second shots on par 5s or long approaches into greens. I have only used them in damp and soft conditions so havent been able to truly measure how quickly they would normally stop on the putting surface. But they certainly pull up very quickly on soft greens!
I do consider these a step up in performance from their Fli Hi model and indeed other hybrids that I tried. And with lofts from 17 degrees all the way up to 29 degrees everyone should find at least one to suit their needs (though I doubt anyone would leave it at one in their bag once they have seen the results that can be achieved).
