It?s hard to conceal my disappointment as I miss out yet again on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. How can the authorities have overlooked my gutsy back nine in the May Mid-Week Stableford, which lifted me from 15 to 34 points and into joint third? Did they not hear about my back-to-back sand saves in my second round Captain?s Cup match against Guy ?Three Putts? Lambert or my turning out for Dale Hill in the club match away to Lamberhurst despite a bad cough and securing a crucial half point in a tense tie? Because my name wasn?t included in the top 10, viewers were cruelly denied the opportunity of voting for me. Worse still, I wasn?t even invited to the event. Mind you, I would probably have walked out in protest at St Helens winning the team award over our beloved Ryder Cup heroes. Who the hell cares about rugby league? And then the ?amazing? Zara Phillips picks up the ?amazing? Sports Personality of the Year Award and makes an ?amazingly? awful speech. Not only would Darren Clarke have spoken much better but he also achieved what he did without the aid of a horse. Anyone reading this and feeling genuinely sorry for me might care to consider nominating me for next year?s Unsung Hero award.
