La Jolla Knife
Visually interesting clubs that are great as long as you strike it out of the middle
La Jolla Knife 3-SW £299(s) £349(g)
Design and Tech Benefits Highly polished head with three distinct shallow blades in sole and rear. The club is hollow so there?s no visible cavity. The shallow blades are designed to make it easier to work the ball laterally and control its flight. The hollow-core weighting system ensures that there?s plenty of perimeter weighting providing forgiveness for off-centre strikes. A tungsten back weight provides a deep, low, centre of gravity for a higher trajectory and better consistency.
GM VERDICT The long irons are great when you make solid contact but perhaps are not as forgiving as they might be. The shorter clubs have big club faces, if you can get past the unusual look they perform well. The clubs are interesting visually from the rear and will not be to everyone?s taste. Even the short irons have huge faces but they look clean and neat at address. There is a noticeable difference in sound between pure and poor strikes and they?re just not as forgiving as some of their competitors.
