Mizuno has continued its foray into the golf ball market with the introduction of three new models for 2015.

The 2015 Mizuno golf balls include the better-player MP-S and MP-X, along with the more amateur-friendly JPX.

The most noteworthy addition is the three-piece JPX ball. Mizuno has introduced a cluster of micro-dimples following research carried out in conjunction with the Fukuoka Institute of Technology.

The new pattern is designed to slow a ball’s angle of descent, thereby ensuring the it hangs in the air for as long as possible.

“The micro-dimples have little effect at higher ball speeds generated at impact. However, as the ball peaks and slows, they start to take effect,” said Masashi Tamakoshi, Mizuno’s Head of Golf Ball Development.

“By stalling the descent phase just a fraction, we were able to increase the JPX’s overall airtime.”

The 2015 Mizuno golf balls collection also includes two models for the better player – MP-S and MP-X, which Chris Wood will play on tour this year.

The four-piece MP-X features a dual core design that reduces spin from the driver, so powerful ball strikers gain more control.

Alex Thorne, European head of tour operations for Mizuno, told Golf Monthly: “For the majority of tour and elite level players, we’ve found the low spin characteristics of the MP-X make it more predictable in the long game. Club players who naturally generate a little less spin will match up better with the MP-S.”

The three-piece MP-S (below) is Mizuno’s softest and most responsive ball, and the 2015 version boasts a larger inner core and thinner urethane cover than last year’s model.

The cover is now just 0.5mm thick to help increase ball speeds from the tee, while a 330 dimple configuration creates a stable ball flight.
