Justin Rose to present 2012 Golf Environment Awards

Ryder Cup star Justin Rose will announce the winners of STRI's 2012 Golf Environment Awards at Westworth later this month, highlighting the best environmental practice at golf courses across the UK.

Rose - who is an official ambassador of the Golf Environment Awards for the third year running - played an instrumental role in Europe's mesmerising final-day comeback at Medinah Country Club.

The 31-year-old Englishman - winner of the inaugural Turkish Airlines World Golf Final last week - is proud to support the awards, which commend both individuals and organisations on their commitment to environmentally sustainable projects.

STRI, the world's leading sports turf consultancy, administers and manages the awards, and has done for the past 15 years.

Each entry is independently judged based on what the golf course has achieved and how it has benefitted the environment. Last year, Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland won the Overall Achievement accolade.

"I'm looking forward to finding out more about this year's winning environmental projects and the leading course management professionals that are pioneering them," said Rose.

The prestigious awards are supported by a range of sponsors committed to promoting sustainability within golf clubs - Country Turf, Ransomes Jacobsen, Everris, Syngenta and BIGGA - along with media sponsors Golf Monthly and Greenkeeping.

Richard Stuttard, STRI's Environmental Consultant, said: "STRI recognised the ever-increasing spotlight on environmental issues and is proud to once again be managing these awards.

"It is imperative that environmentally sustainable courses should be at the forefront within the golf industry."

In total, 11 awards will be handed out, ranging from nature conservation management to the conservation greenkeepeing.

Winners will be revealed on www.golfenvironmentawards.com at the end of October.
