Golf Monthly Top 25 Coach Paul Ashwell has been appointed Director of Golf Coaching at St Ives Golf Club in Cambridgeshire.

Ashwell will be relocating his renowned golf academy to the new site after 28 years as Head Professional at Wyboston Golf Club.

Ashwell, who will now concentrate solely on coaching, said he was impressed with the facilities at St Ives.

“Im confident this will be a good move for me,” he said.

“My favourite courses are links and this is a well-designed inland links course. To play successfully you have to be able to hit a tremendous variety of shots. It forces you to use all the clubs in your bag.

“The practice facilities are good here, and there is plenty of potential to improve them.”

Ashwell, who started as an Assistant Professional at John O’Gaunt, will combine his new role with pre-existing responsibilities, including coaching the England Men’s National Squad.

“I’ve always enjoyed teaching. Helping all golfers improve, whether they are elite players or ordinary club golfers, is just the best job in the world. It’s like watching your child learn to ride a bike for the first time,” he said.

Ashwell has been an England Golf Union coach since 1999 and coached numerous county boys and girls teams. He is a certified golf psychologist and a Fellow of the PGA.
