29-year old American becomes the latest player to join the Wilson Staff roster

Wilson Staff, the brand with 61 major championship victories, more than any other, has signed Troy Merritt. The 29-year old up-and-coming American will play the new FG Tour V4 irons and FG Tour TC Wedges on the PGA Tour.

Three rounds in the 60s put him in contention at the second PGA Tour event of 2015, the Sony Open in Hawaii, which was the first event for Merritt with the FG Tour V4 irons. Merritt’s new clubs will now proudly be displayed in a Wilson Staff Tour bag for the rest of the 2015 PGA Tour season.

‘I wanted to select a company that I will grow with, and that will grow with my game’, said Merritt who will also wear the brand’s famous logo on the front of his cap. ‘I heard from other Wilson Advisory Staff members that the Wilson innovation team delivers outstanding product and service’.

According to Wilson Staff, the FG Tour V4 irons, initially designed for Tour players, are for all elite golfers looking for improved feel and control. Long to mid irons feature an 18-gram tungsten sole weight, lowering the centre of gravity resulting in an increased launch angle. Wilson Staff say this allows the golfer to attack the most difficult of pin positions.

Merritt will be in good company on Wilson Staff’s books. Current Tour players and ‘Advisory Members’ include three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, two-time PGA Tour winner Kevin Streelman, PGA Tour player Rickie Barnes and the 2014 BMW Masters champion, Germany’s Marcel Siem. Troy Merritt joins Brendan Steele and Paul Waring in recently signing for the historic brand.

Merritt has already made four cuts in the 2015 PGA Tour season as he hopes to improve on a career-best 101st placed finish in the 2014 FedEx Cup. Last week, he finished T48 in the Humana Challenge.
