Expert golf tips: Power drives

Find a few extra yards

Golf tips from Golf Monthly playing editor David Howell

If the hole in front of you is fairly open and you know that a long drive will set up a good birdie opportunity, make a couple of minor adjustments to produce extra distance.

Firstly, tee the ball up a little higher than usual. This will help you find more carry through the air.

Next concentrate on making a slightly bigger turn during the backswing.
As your back rotates to face the target, you'll generate extra torque that will translate into valuable extra clubhead speed through the downswing.

Having just read your tips on Putting, I would like to take the opportunity to help other golfers that may have had the problems that I had.
Putting has been the weak part of my game, it added to my score by maybe 5/6 shots a round. my playing partner always said i aligned letf of my intented target.
I recently had laser surgery on my eyes(quite expensive) and before anyone thinks that's too much money the difference it makes is phenomenal. I made the decision to have this treatment after speaking to my surgeon who advised after checking found I had a Dominant eye. this I was told could not be rectified by surgery, but hight-lighted my problem with the Putter.
I now stand with an open stance which brings my right eye into line ( right eye lining the putter) saving me 5/6 shots a round.
I recommend (dominant eye tests) these are very easy for you to do at home, just asked your optician. Good Luck....C Scates
