Having taken the club back on a wide arc and reached the top of your backswing, your first movement should be to pull your hands down.

One of the most common power-sapping faults is to flick the wrists, pushing the clubhead away from yourself at the top of the backswing. This movement, known as "casting", will slow your hands through the most important stage of the swing – impact.
