Fly it over any water hazard

Top 25 Coach Russell Smith

In certain situations, there is no "bail out" area. When you are playing over water, a crisp strike is the only option, so concentrate on driving your weight onto your left side through the downswing.

Amateurs often make the mistake of leaning back on their right side in a bid to get the ball airborne but this hampers the quality of the strike. Simply focus on moving your weight left as you hit the ball for a clean, powerful contact.

Alternatively, concentrate on maintaining the posture that you set at address throughout the swing. If your head remains at the same height you should be able to make a sweet strike. Use one of these two swing thoughts to help you focus on a positive swing and not on the danger that lurks ahead.
