Keep your arms and body working together

Split Grip Drill

Split Grip Drill

One of the biggest faults in my game is that sometimes my arms and body get out of synch with each other.

This can affect both the quality and accuracy of the strike so it’s important for every player to devote some time to this to get them working in harmony once again.

One drill that I like is to hit a series of 9-iron shots using a split grip, as if you are holding a baseball bat (shown below). As you turn through the swing, feel your arms working in tandem with your body.

With a split grip your hands will find a natural release for a powerful strike (this will also aid the rotation of your body through the ball).

Hit a series of shots using this simple drill and you’ll groove a more co-ordinated swing for stronger, more accurate ball striking.
