Golf Monthly Top 25 Coach Steve North describes how to run a long iron into the green from a downslope
Finding a sweet strike when the ball is sitting on a downslope requires a few crucial adjustments.
As you stand over the ball move it back a fraction in your stance and ensure that your spine is set at a 90˚ angle to the slope.
With your body in the perfect position you should find a clean strike easier to achieve.
As you prepare to play, concentrate on driving the clubhead down through the ball on a slightly steeper angle of attack than usual.
If you can avoid hanging back on your right side through impact you’ll hit the ball powerfully before the ground.
It’s worth remembering that the resulting flight will be lower than usual so don’t try to carry the ball over any trouble.
