Golf tips of the week: Foot-up drill

Gary Alliss golf tips

Gary Alliss provides his golf tips of the week with the 'Foot-up' drill

An excellent drill that will help improve the quality of your ball-striking is to hit shots standing on one foot. The only way to find a clean contact is by making a controlled turn without any unnecessary movements. If at any stage during the season your ball-striking lets you down, use this drill to get yourself back on track.

I think this drill should be called "the flamingo" drill. I've heard that that's why those birds stand with one leg in the air, because they're unhappy with their golf swing!

Seriously though, this is a good drill, along the lines of hitting the ball with the legs together. One of the drills is more likely to have you falling on your backside at the range though... prepare to be ridiculed if it all goes wrong!
