Wedge play distance control drill

Ball flight, Andrew Jones

Control the ball flight of your wedges

To control the distance of your wedges, especially in the wind, it’s important to be able to manipulate your trajectory.

For a low flight, move the ball back in your stance and place a fraction more weight on your left side.

For a medium flight, move the ball into the middle of your stance and split your weight evenly. For a high flight, move the ball further forward and push a fraction more weight onto your right side.

Finding a sweet strike for a high-flying shot requires pinpoint precision, so inspect your lie closely.

If it’s too bare it’s safer to play the ball back in your stance and eliminate your chances of catching the ground before the ball.
