Hone your wedge play

Ball Striking, Andrew Jones

Strike your wedges with authority

Striking your wedges crisply is a basic requirement for success, so here’s a couple of drills to help.

Place a tee in the ground about an inch in front of your ball as shown (right).

Concentrate on striking the ball and then the tee. This forces you to trust the loft on the face to get the ball airborne, preventing you from hanging back through impact and creating a duff contact.

Once you’ve mastered this, peg the ball up and try to clip it off the top.

This drill forces you to maintain your spine angle from address through to impact – another basic element behind good ball striking.
