Hitting half-wedge shots

Those tricky 40 to 60-yard wedge shots make all golfers a little nervous. The following steps will help you play these shots more confidently and effectively. First, take a narrow stance and play the ball off your right instep.
This leans the shaft forward and delofts the clubface for a lower ball flight. Grip down almost to the shaft to shorten the effective length of the club. This will give you greater feel – you want your fingers and hands to lead the entire swing.
Hinge the club up on the backswing and then extend your arms to the target after impact.
Try to make a divot instead of picking the ball cleanly off the grass, and you'll generate more spin to make the ball stop by the hole.
