David Howell's lob shot strategy

Think where you want to pitch the ball

Just as when I'm hitting any chip, my first concern on a longer pitch shot is where to land the ball.

Picking an exact point to land the ball will help you decide exactly how to play the shot. By taking a look at the contours on the green I know that the ball will roll from left to right when it lands.

So in this instance I fix my aim on a spot about three feet short and left of the flag – this becomes my ideal landing zone.
