Master the lofted chip

McGinley 25 yard chip

For a 25 yard chip over a bunker, I don't need to open the clubface to provide any extra height - the loft of the club should be enough to deliver the sort of flight I'm after.

I'd position the ball back slightly in my stance to ensure a sweet contact and good distance control. Through impact the bounce of the wedge should 'ride' the ground and not dig into it. Notice how the club continues to drive smoothly through the ball, towards the finish position. Accelerating smoothly through the ball by committing to the shot is essential for a successful result.
