Bunker play tip: the grid drill

The Bunker Grid

Creating a grid in a practice bunker, will encourage you to take more sand with your trap shots, resulting in better outcomes.

Visualisation is also key when it comes to playing bunker shots. A common problem I find with amateur golfers is they lack the confidence to take enough sand when playing from a greenside bunker.

Place six balls in a practice bunker and create a grid like the one shown(right). Aim to move all of the sand out of the square when you play each shot. This should fill you with confidence on the course and you will learn how the ball reacts when it leaves the bunker.
