Golf Monthly Top 25 coach Andrew Jones tackles a plugged lie in the sand
Plugged-lie practice
As part of your bunker-practice routine, devote some time to hitting shots from plugged lies. The ability to escape when your ball is plugged will certainly save you shots during the season.
The key here is to set your stance and clubface square at address. With the ball slightly further back in your stance, you'll find a steeper angle of attack. As long as you swing aggressively the leading edge of the club will drive into the sand, forcing the ball out onto the green.
Remember that the ball will emerge on a lower flight and with less backspin than usual, so be sure to allow for this.
There's more bunker advice from Top 25 coach Andrew Jones in April's issue of Golf Monthly.

Mr Andrew Jones has showed how to get the ball out, with no spin and alot of rolling. There is a way of playing a plugged lie with height and not much roll. Ball in the middle of stance, aiming well left, leaning with all weight on left side. Clubface more open than a normall bunker shot, have a fairly full backswing to give speed to strike down with hardly any follow through, so as the heel of the club enters the sand first the face stays open, giving a soft flaoted shot from a Pluged Lie. Having played on Tour for many years, I've learnt many different short game shots from the masters.
Hope this instruction helps, if not I can always come down and show you.
