Golf tips of the week: the checking chip

A golfing tip from Nick Dougherty for all those looking to execute the checking chip shot.
For this shot I’ve chosen a wedge, but I’m not looking for a high trajectory. Instead a crisp contact and low, driven flight should offer the perfect amount of control. To be sure of a low flight, keep your hands ahead of the ball at address. As long as they return ahead of the ball at impact (as mine are here) you’ll find the low, driven flight you need.
The beauty of this shot is that you can be aggressive and commit to a positive stroke. Let your body rotate back and through and accelerate your hands through the ball. These simple principles will help you find the clean, aggressive strike you need for a spinning chip.

Not very original as this clip/.article has already been on the BBC Golf Website. I would have thought Golf Monthly could have been a little more original.

This clip has come straight off the BBC Golf website. It is a shame that Golf Monthly cannot come up with its own materials.

Mr Herd, you seem to be very confused. Not only have you posted something incorrect but you have done it twice!
This tip was shot by photographer Angus Murray and directed by Golf Monthly's deputy editor Neil Tappin while on location with Nick at Celtic Manor the 2008 Wales Open. It was part of an EXCLUSIVE instruction feature and interview GM did with him
If you think otherwise please do feel free to post the link form the BBC website which you think you have seen
Happy golfing Stuart
