Commit to the shot
Although the set-up and execution of these two shots is different, the key remains the same. You must commit to the shot and accelerate through the ball. It is a common problem on delicate shots around the green that golfers decelerate. This causes all manner of problems when you are trying to get the ball up in the air quickly. If you look at my right foot in both images you will see the effect of the different address positions. In the bunker my right heel is off the ground after impact because of the extra weight that was on my left side. This, combined with the steeper swing plane, has popped the ball out of the sand. With the flop shot, from the flatter swing plane, I have slipped the clubhead under the ball sending it almost vertically, and my right foot remains flat.
