The draw for the 2009 Open Championship at Turnberry has been made, and there are some fascinating groups for spectators to follow on the Ailsa Course this coming Thursday, including a major-themed threeball for defending champion Padraig Harrington.

The Irishman will have two other major winners alongside him when he tees off at 2.20pm on Thursday, with US Open champions Jim Furyk and Geoff Ogilvy forming an exciting threeball.

German Martin Kaymer, who has just won back-to-back titles, tees off with former Open winner Ernie Els and current US Open champion Lucas Glover, who will head out at 12.58pm.

Crowds will flock to see Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy as he attempts to win the Open alongside American Anthony Kim and the in-form South African Retief Goosen at 1.30pm.

Tiger Woods has an earlier tee off time as he plays alongside Englishman Lee Westwood and Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa, who get away at 9.09am, and will be sure to have the early crowds following them.

Other interesting groups include 2001 Open champion David Duval – so impressive in the US Open recently – who joins up with recent European Tour winner Nick Dougherty and Australian Adam Scott – who had a top-5 finish at Loch Lomond at the weekend.

Last year’s surprise package Greg Norman will hope to have another memorable year when he starts his campaign at 7.36 am with American Kenny Perry and England’s Oliver Wilson.
