Putting Tips: Length of your Putter
Checking the length of your putter
Most golfers stand to the putter rather than standing in the correct posture, adapting their set-up to suit the putter they have in their hands.
Very few golfers get custom-fitted for their putter to ensure it is the right for their build and yet a standard putter (usually 35 inches long) will definitely not suit the majority of players. To check if you have the right length putter, use this simple 'Praying' drill.
Set-up with your feet about shoulder width apart, keep a slight flex in the knees and tilt forward from your hips so that your arms hang down naturally and place the palms together.
Now introduce the putter. If your hands dramatically hang low down the grip or onto the shaft your putter is too long and you could be forced into a poor bent-arm address.
