Some of the final spots at the Open were decided as 384 players battled it out for twelve places at Local Final Qualifying.

At Monifieth three amateurs qualified for the event, Englishmen David Coupland and Paul Waring and Welshman Llewellyn Mathews.

In dramatic circumstances Englishmen Kevin Harper and Steve Parry and New Zealander Steve Alker qualified at Panmure. Zane Scotland lead with two holes to go but made a triple-bogey seven to miss out. Former Open runner-up Thomas Levet also missed out but will have an opportunity to qualify when he plays in the Scottish Open this week.

At Montrose Australian Matthew Zion added a solid 68 to his impressive first round 65 to seal a place. David Shacklady from Mossock Hall shot the lowest round of the day with a 62. They qualified alongside Justin Kehoe (pictured) who finished 7-under.

Finally at Downfield Jon Bevan and David Higgins qualified with a total of 137. The third spot was decided in a four way play-off and was taken by 2004 Volvo PGA Champion Scott Drummond.
