Haberdashers Storm to School Title

Haberdashers overcame a three shot defecit to win the Independent Schools National Finals in April

Haberdashers

Haberdashers' Aske's School claimed the team event at the Independent Schools National Finals this past month, just two years after finishing last.

Three behind leaders Bedford after day one, Haberdashers stormed through the field in the final round courtesy of rounds of 71 and 74 from Wiliam Aldred and Amar Vaghela respectively.

Held at Princes and Royal St George's golf clubs, the scratch strokeplay event is one of the highlights in the calendar of Independent Schools Golf, with Millfield, Wellington and Loretto all among the past winners.

But no one could match Haberdashers this year, with Aldred, Vaghela and Aiden Kovenklioglu beating Bedford by two shots.

The winning team was presented with a trophy from Colonel Checketts OBE of Royal St Georges, along with three Galvin Green waterproofs. Callum Hill, of Merchiston, held his nerve to shoot an excellent final round 71 for a 143 total and the individual trophy, ahead of Bedford's Harry Wetton, who had a 36-hole score of 146.
