Lee Westwood has spoken of his pride after a pupil at one of his golf schools was awarded a scholarship to a prestigious American university.
Megan Taylor, 18, will continue her education at Wingate University, North Carolina, in August after graduating from the Lee Westwood Golf School in Essex this year.
Taylor, from Buckden, Cambridgeshire, was the order of merit winner in her second year and received maximum educational grades with three distinction stars.
She reduced her handicap from seven to 2.6 in the two years she attended the school.
“I’m very proud of Megan’s achievements,” said Westwood
“She has flourished both as a golfer and academically during her time at the school.”
Taylor, whose four-year scholarship will combine playing tournament golf and studying for a degree, said: “It was always my aim to continue my studies in the US, so I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity.
“I’m grateful to everyone for their support and also to Lee himself. He has been really helpful and given me some great advice.”
Simon Dainty, PGA coach at the Essex school, said: “It’s a great success story for the school that a student has achieved their exit strategy.
“All of her aspirations were fulfilled. We’re proud of being involved and hopefully this will serve as inspiration for future pupils.”
