Liz and Naomi won their places at the final qualifying event at The Berkshire. Naomi Edwards, who played in all four rounds of the 2007 championship, was fifth on three-under par 69 – one shot behind the four leaders.

The Ganton, Yorkshire, golfer was level par after 14 holes and then birdied the 15th and eagled the 16th.

Liz Bennett, from Brokenhurst Manor in Hampshire, had three birdies and two bogeys in her one-under 71 and shared 13th place.

All players on 72 and better qualified for the Open. Hampshire’s Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) was among 11 players tied on 73 who took part in a sudden-death play-off for the remaining four reserve spots – but she missed out on a place.
